hosted an exciting seminar titled "Exploring the Arts of Forensics in the
Digital Era" from April 14, 2023, to April 16, 2023.
The seminar focused on beyond-the-classroom activities and learning opportunities for forensic science students to enhance their knowledge about various forensic science disciplines.
It also highlighted how forensic investigative techniques contribute to identifying criminals and what the challenges are in today’s digital era.
Forensics has always assisted law enforcement bodies in speeding up the process from identifying a suspect to convicting a criminal.
However, with the advent of technology, there has been a massive change in the way crimes occur. The digitalization of every sector has led to a massive increase in the crime rate. Criminals nowadays take advantage of digital technology to commit crime, which is why traditional forensic investigative techniques evolved with time to keep up with digital trends.
Continuous R&D is going on to develop
instruments that aid in analysing the evidence much more accurately than
before.
As a keynote speaker, I discussed various opportunities, challenges, and investigating techniques in the following categories:
- Cyber Forensics and Questioned Document
- Fingerprint and Forensic Anthropology
- Crime Scene Investigation and Management
I also emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to solving cases, which includes not only technological solutions but also human factors such as training and awareness. Also, there is a need for collaboration and bringing together experts from various fields to address the challenges and opportunities of the digital era.
During the hands-on workshop, students got the opportunity to gain practical exposure to using various tools. It was a great way to put theory into practice and to learn from experienced professionals in the field.
In conclusion, the seminar on Exploring the Arts of Forensics in the Digital Era held at the University of Baguio was a great success and a fantastic opportunity to learn from and engage with experts in the field of forensics. The seminar provided a comprehensive overview of the advancements and challenges of forensics in the modern era, highlighting its applications in various industries such as criminal investigation and cybersecurity. and I look forward to being a part of similar events in the future.
