The study of crime and justice is a complex and ever-evolving field, deeply intertwined with social, economic, and political factors.
On the 26th of May 2023, the Faculty of
Science at Assam Down Town University organized an enlightening online session
titled "Determining Global Trends in Crime and Justice."
This engaging session, presented by two
distinguished forensic experts, myself and Mr. Phaneendar BN, shed light on the
dynamic nature of crime trends and the legal aspects associated with narcotics
and psychotropic substances.
During the session, we embarked on an in-depth exploration of global trends in crime and justice. Drawing from extensive research and real-world examples, we analyzed the factors influencing crime rates, the changing nature of criminal activities, and the challenges faced by the justice system.
The first part of the session focused on my presentation, where I discussed the intricate relationship between social dynamics and crime. We explored how societal factors such as poverty, inequality, and social disorganization contribute to the occurrence of criminal behavior. Additionally, we examined the impact of globalization and technological advancements on the evolution of crime, including cybercrime, organized crime, and terrorism.
Building upon this foundation, Mr. Phaneendar BN then delved into a specific area of criminal justice—the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, as well as the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
Through captivating case studies, he elucidated the legal framework governing narcotics and psychotropic substances, shedding light on the severe punishments associated with violations of these laws.
Students gained insights into the complexities of drug-related crimes, the investigative techniques employed, and the measures taken to combat illicit drug trafficking.
The collaborative effort between the two forensic experts ensured a holistic approach to the session, presenting students with a comprehensive view of crime and justice.
The interactive nature of the session allowed students to actively participate, ask questions, and engage in meaningful discussions, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills.
This exchange of ideas not only enriched
their learning experience but also provided practical insights into the
challenges and rewards of working in the field of crime and justice.
In conclusion, the expert session organized
by the Faculty of Science at Assam Down Town University proved to be an
enlightening experience for the participating students. The combined expertise
of the two forensic experts provided a comprehensive understanding of crime
trends, the legal aspects of narcotics and psychotropic substances, and the
challenges faced by the justice system.
The knowledge gained from this session will
undoubtedly benefit the students as they pursue careers in criminology, law
enforcement, or related fields, enabling them to make meaningful contributions
to society by addressing contemporary issues of crime and justice.
