Forensic Science Workshop – Law College Dehradun

Forensic science uses several scientific techniques to collect evidence that law enforcement agencies can use to punish criminals. And to spread awareness and the importance of forensic science among students, Law College Dehradun organized a Forensic Science workshop in collaboration with Delhi University on 4th April 2019.

I feel privileged to be invited as a chief guest and a keynote speaker for the event. On the workshop day, Principal & Dean Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna gave me a warm welcome by presenting a memento followed by a lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries present and the university kulgeet.

In the inaugural speech, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna highlighted my forensic expertise in handwriting analysis, questioned document analysis, and fingerprint examination domains. He also emphasized my major accomplishments such as completing field training at C.F.S.L. (C.B.I.), AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi), and NICFS (National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences) (MHA), Delhi, and visits to many Central Forensic Science Laboratories & State Forensic Lab.

To ignite the spark among the audience, I began the session by stating a famous quote,

“They say seeing is believing but not always what you see you should believe.”

The entire session was categorized into two parts; forensic science and cyber forensics and each topic was discussed in detail separately. Several forensic investigation methods were thoroughly explained, including preparation, research, protection, imaging, expert analysis, examination, and documentation.

Being a lawyer myself, I stated, “Forensic with the law will never have a flaw,” and elaborated on the importance of forensic science for lawyers. Forensic evidence is reliable, authentic, believable, admissible, and complete and therefore plays a significant role in solving a criminal case effectively.

I covered a brief theory regarding various forensic science branches like toxicology, anthropology, forensic chemistry, forensic physics, and forensic odontology.

Also, I highlighted the benefit of possessing Evidence Act knowledge along with forensic science for lawyers and forensic experts.

Details about Section-45 and section-65 (B) under the Indian Evidence Act and a few other topics like different types of evidence, cyber forensics, cyber crimes, and hacking were also covered.

The workshop ended with me answering several queries of the participants that included questions related to the authenticity of various apps and programs and the validity of forensic evidence in the court of law.

The interactive forensic science workshop helped more than 150 participants gain deep insights into the significance science and technology hold in pursuing justice.
